Lack of transparency and hybrid democracies; how transparency effects transitional countries/new democracies
Lack of transparency can be seriously detrimental to new democracies. Albania is among those countries that still strives to build its institutions, get governments lack of transparency in many reforms combined with the very high level of disbelief in the society creates a trap (vicious circle) impeding institution building and its consultation. Furthermore, it has led to exclusive institutions and perceived representative democracy. Case to be analysed: the latest protests taking place in Tirana, against the building of a project that is sacrificing the sole green area of the capital. The activists protesting criticize the government for lack of transparency: implementing an illegal project where institutions are the first to break the law.
